How the Arizona ESA Program Works for Homeschool Families

Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program allows eligible families to use state education funds for approved educational expenses, including home education. The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) uses ClassWallet to help families manage ESA purchases and payments.

First Homeschool is an approved ClassWallet Marketplace vendor. Use the Marketplace / Start Shopping route to purchase from us with ESA funds. We are not set up as a Direct Pay / Pay Vendor provider.

Arizona is different from Alabama and South Carolina: Arizona also has separate reimbursement and debit-card processes under its ESA rules. Those options have their own documentation requirements. Our approved First Homeschool relationship is through the ClassWallet Marketplace.

How to Access ClassWallet

If you have been awarded Arizona ESA funds, use ClassWallet to enter First Homeschool through the Marketplace. Starting inside ClassWallet is the best way to keep your Arizona funded purchase connected to the correct student wallet.

Log onto ClassWallet

Sign in to your ClassWallet account and select the correct student.

Open the ClassWallet Marketplace

Locate the Marketplace shopping option and select Start Shopping.

Locate “First Homeschool”

Find First Homeschool in the approved Marketplace retailer list and select Shop. We are a Marketplace vendor, not a Direct Pay / Pay Vendor provider.

Choose Your Curriculum

You’ll be redirected to our storefront. Add eligible curriculum, books, workbooks, literature, and educational materials to your cart.

Submit Your Order

Complete the storefront checkout flow and submit the order so it can return to ClassWallet for Arizona ESA payment processing.

Authorize the ClassWallet Purchase

Finish the requested information inside ClassWallet and authorize use of your available funds. Final eligibility and purchase approval are determined by the state program.

What Can Arizona ESA Funds Cover?

ADE identifies educational expense categories that include curriculum, textbooks, reading books, flashcards, educational games, tutoring, and other approved items or services. Supplemental materials can require documentation showing that they are required or recommended by a curriculum.

Before buying supplemental materials: keep curriculum documentation that connects the item to your student’s course of study. ADE makes the final determination about whether an expense is allowable.

Common Errors When Creating ClassWallet Orders

Starting Outside ClassWallet

If you plan to use program funds, enter First Homeschool through Start Shopping in the Marketplace instead of beginning with a normal storefront checkout.

Wrong Student or Balance

Families with multiple students should confirm the correct wallet is selected and that funds are available before submitting an order.

Item Eligibility

Being sold by an approved Marketplace vendor does not make every item automatically eligible. State program rules control the final decision.

Arizona-specific reminder: reimbursement exists as a separate option, but it requires its own documentation and approval process. If you want to use First Homeschool through our approved vendor relationship, use the Marketplace route.
