The Homeschool Attendance & Hours Tracker is an Excel and Google Sheets spreadsheet that logs school days, hours, and core hours for up to six children, and shows whether each child is on track to hit your state's or program's target.

A normal school day takes one keystroke. Type x under Everyone, and every child gets their usual hours. The Dashboard keeps the running totals and counts the school days you have left. When someone asks for proof, it prints a one-page report.

Which tracker do you need?

Get this one if you're logging more than one child, your state or program counts hours or core hours, or you want to know in March whether you'll hit your number in May.

Get the Printable Homeschool Attendance Log ($2.99) instead if you have one child and would rather check boxes on paper. It's simpler, and simpler is the right choice for a lot of families.

What the tracker does

  • Days, hours, and core hours for each child, added up as you go.
  • A plain status for every target: MET, ON TRACK, TIGHT, BEHIND, or NOT STARTED. TIGHT means you'll make it only if you don't miss a day.
  • School days left. It counts only the weekdays you usually school, and it skips the breaks on your Days Off list.
  • Off days are easy to log. One child sick? Type 0 in their column. Field trip for everyone? Type the hours under Everyone instead of x.
  • A notes cell on every day for one line about what you covered.

Two reports, ready to print

  • Print Report: every child on one page, with days, hours, and core hours against each target, a month-by-month count, and a signature line. Use it for an evaluator, an umbrella school, a charter or ESA program, or your own records.
  • Student Report: one child at a time, with a year summary by month and a day-by-day calendar of the whole year.

Neither report has our store branding on it. They're your school's records.

Set up once

Setup takes about five minutes on the Setup tab. Enter your school name, the month you start, your first and last planned days, and which weekdays you usually school. Then add each child's name, grade, and targets. It works with any start month and any year. The file is undated, so you start a fresh copy each year.

There's no built-in 50-state rules table, and that's on purpose. Rules change, and a wrong preset is worse than none. You type in the number your state or program asks for (180 days, 1,000 hours, 600 core hours), and the sheet does the math. Check your state's current law for what's required.

What it doesn't do

It doesn't plan lessons or keep grades. If you want to know "will we finish the book?", you need the Homeschool Pacing Calculator. Homeschooling in Arkansas and want attendance, report cards, and EFA pages in one book? See the Arkansas Homeschool Record Book. It doesn't work in Apple Numbers.

What's in the download

  • Excel Edition (.xlsx): works in Excel on Windows or Mac, and in Excel Online.
  • Google Sheets Edition: a link. Choose File > Make a copy, and it's yours on a computer, tablet, or phone (free Google Sheets app).
  • A filled-in example file, so you can see a real year before you start your own.

No macros, no add-ons, no account, no subscription. The formulas are protected, so a stray keystroke can't break a total.

Common questions

Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Open your Google Sheets copy in the free Google Sheets app, tap the day's cell under Everyone, and type x. The Dashboard updates by itself. Excel works on a phone too, but the Sheets app is easier for daily logging.

What if I forget to log a day?
Open that month's tab and fill it in whenever you remember. Every total, status, and report updates. Nothing depends on the date you type it in, so you can catch up a whole week on Friday night.
